In this class, I learned:
- How to utilize, search, and install website plugins.
- How to create a business website with content optimized to appear in search engines, specifically Google.
- How to map out a website before building it, and the importance of internal/external links.
2 things I wished we had more time to learn about are:
- How to customize a website, such as changing the background, heading, and footers to make them more aesthetic.
- Applying a different theme to the site using the content previously added to the site.
Expectations vs. Reality of this class
Coming into this class, I thought that the material would be more difficult to understand than it was. I initially thought this class would be heavily focused on site management and production using code. Focusing on website production and management through a platform like WordPress was helpful because it allowed me to understand the actual concepts without worrying about coding to get the results I wanted. Although I had experience with WordPress previously to create my Digital Editing portfolio, most of my concern was learning how to optimize the content on the site for search engines, which we were able to learn in this class.
